Kampala, August 30, 2025 – In a significant display of party unity, all aspirants for the chairmanship of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Entrepreneurs League have unconditionally endorsed Al Hajji Hassan Basajjabalaba as their unopposed leader for the 2025-2031 term.
The decision follows a high-level dialogue initiated by H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the National Chairman of the NRM, and facilitated by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa. The meeting was held today at State Lodge Nakasero.
According to a communiqué signed by the candidates, the move was made “in the spirit of party unity and cohesion as emphasized by our party chairman.” The document was signed by Hon. Sanjay Tanna, Mr. Kakuru Phillip, H.E. King Ceasor Mulenga, and the endorsed chairman, Al Hajji Hassan Basajjabalaba. Rt. Hon. Tayebwa also signed as the facilitator.
President Museveni expressed his gratitude for the outcome, stating, “First, I would like to thank Rt Hon Thomas Tayebwa for bringing these factions together and thank all the aspirants for their foresight. As I often say, it is not just about who is in the position, but what can be achieved.”
The President went on to congratulate Al Hajji Basajjabalaba and commended the other candidates for their “selfless act,” which averts a potential election and solidifies the party’s front.
This endorsement ensures that Al Hajji Hassan Basajjabalaba will lead the influential NRM Entrepreneurs League for the next six years without opposition.
