NUP 2026 Ticket Leaks: Segona Retained, Naluyima and Bwanika Dropped in Wakiso Shake-Up
The latest leaks on the opposition National Unity Platform’s (NUP) internal arrangements for the 2026 general elections have revealed major political casualties in Wakiso District.
According to sources privy to the highly secretive ticket allocation process, Busiro East MP Medard Segona Lubega has been cleared to retain his parliamentary seat, while first-term Wakiso Woman MP Betty Ethel Naluyima has been dropped.
Insiders say party strategists had to choose between retaining Segona or outgoing Wakiso LC5 Chairperson Matia Lwanga Bwanika. In the end, Bwanika—currently eyeing the Busiro South MP seat—was sacrificed. The decision is said to have been influenced by his earlier refusal to consider contesting in Busiro North and his long-standing political clash with Kavule-backed Nasif Najja, whom NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) is reportedly grooming to become the new Wakiso Governor.
Political dynamics within the party hierarchy appear to have worked against Bwanika. Nasif Najja’s younger brother serves as the principal’s chief of staff, a factor that sources say made Bwanika’s survival in the party’s 2026 plans untenable. In his place, a one Kikomeko—known to be a close associate of singer King Saha—is being favored for Busiro South, ahead of wealthy contender Steven Sekigozi.
Naluyima, a protégé and former deputy to Bwanika, has also been edged out. Despite her reputation as a high-performing legislator, she reportedly fell out of favor with Kavule, who sees her as skeptical of lawyer George Musisi and unwilling to aggressively challenge Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda for his seat. Party insiders claim Kavule blames Naluyima’s “lukewarm” approach for slowing pro-Musisi mobilization in the Kira ghettos.
The developments signal an intense, high-stakes political reorganization in Wakiso ahead of 2026, with loyalty to key power brokers emerging as a decisive factor in NUP’s ticketing decisions.
