OpenAI to Introduce Flirting and Erotic Content for Adult ChatGPT Users
In a significant policy shift, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has announced that the company’s flagship AI, ChatGPT, will soon allow flirting and erotic conversations for verified adult users. The move is part of a broader initiative to offer a more human-like experience and to “treat adult users like adults.”
The announcement, made by Altman in a post on X on Tuesday, clarifies that these more personal and intimate interactions will be opt-in. He emphasized that the goal is user choice, stating the AI will behave in a more human-like way “but only if you want it, not because we are usage maxxing.”
This strategic pivot places OpenAI in direct competition with similar offerings from other AI firms, most notably Elon Musk’s xAI, which recently introduced sexually explicit chatbots to its Grok platform. The feature is widely seen as a method to attract and retain more paying subscribers for ChatGPT’s premium tiers.
However, the decision is also expected to intensify the ongoing debate around AI ethics and safety. By venturing into the realm of intimate AI companions, OpenAI will likely increase pressure on lawmakers worldwide to establish clearer and tighter regulations governing the behaviour of chatbot companions and the content they are permitted to generate.
