
Operation Silent Storm Deals Major Blow to al-Shabaab Militants
The joint counteroffensive by the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) forces and the Somali National Army (SNA), codenamed Operation Silent Storm, has recorded remarkable success in the ongoing fight against al-Shabaab terrorists.
According to official reports, hundreds of militants have been Put Out of Action (POA), with dozens more captured alive during the operation. The coordinated offensive has also led to the recovery of a massive cache of weapons and communications equipment from the extremist group.
Recovered items include hundreds of assault rifles, machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), anti-tank weapons, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), bombs, ammunition, and several VHF field radios used for battlefield coordination.
Military commanders have hailed the achievement as a decisive step towards degrading al-Shabaab’s operational capacity. The Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) contingent and SNA fighters have been commended for their courage and determination in executing the mission successfully.
Officials note that the gains made under Operation Silent Storm mark a significant turning point in efforts to restore lasting peace and stability in Somalia.
