Police Hunt for Domestic Worker After Six-Year-Old Boy Goes Missing in Kampala
KAMPALA – A city-wide manhunt is underway for a domestic worker who disappeared with his employer’s six-year-old son from their home in Kawempe Division. The incident has triggered an urgent police investigation and raised alarms about child safety.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala confirmed that the child, Abraham Mpirwe Tumwesigye, was last seen with the family’s shamba boy (gardener/domestic worker), David Muchunguzi, on the afternoon of December 12, 2025.
Details of the Disappearance
The incident occurred in the Ddungu Zone, Kisaasi, within Kawempe Division. According to the official police statement, Muchunguzi, who was employed by the child’s father, Dr. Tumwesigye Emmanuel, left the home with the boy at around 4:00 p.m. (1600 hours) and failed to return.
A kidnapping case was subsequently reported at the Universal Police Post, where initial statements were collected. The matter has been taken up by the Kira Road Divisional Police for investigation.

“The public is urged to share any information regarding the whereabouts of the suspect or the victim with the Police to aid investigations and the safe recovery of the child,” stated Kawala.
Context: A Broader Pattern of Concern
This distressing case occurs against a backdrop of heightened concern over child kidnappings in the region. In July of the previous year, police officials had already raised an alarm over an increase in such incidents.
Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, has previously indicated that motives often involve ransom demands or ritualistic purposes. This recent event underscores ongoing challenges with child safety and the vetting of domestic staff, a common practice in many households.
Coincidentally, the Kampala Metropolitan Police have been conducting intensified operations across the city. Just weeks before this incident, police arrested 136 suspects in a week-long crackdown targeting criminal hideouts involved in robberies and narcotics across divisions including Kira, Nansana, and Old Kampala. These operations, coupled with community sensitization meetings, are part of broader efforts to strengthen public safety.
How the Public Can Help
Police are calling for community vigilance. Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact the nearest police station or the Kira Road Divisional Police.
The family and authorities await any lead that could bring young Abraham Mpirwe Tumwesigye home safely.
