President Museveni Bids Farewell to Retiring UPDF Generals, Urges Wise Retirement Planning
Entebbe, Uganda – August 8, 2025
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the Commander-in-Chief of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), on Friday presided over the retirement ceremony of seven senior army officers at State House, Entebbe, marking the end of decades of distinguished service.
The event was filled with tributes to the officers’ dedication, courage, and sacrifices in building and defending Uganda. In his remarks, the President and other speakers acknowledged the transformation of the UPDF from what some once viewed as a “laughable” force into the backbone of the country’s stability and development.
Quoting a Luganda proverb, “Obwato bufa magoba” — meaning a boat is lost for the sake of profit — a speaker noted that soldiers have long endured low salaries, and as they retire, they will now take home substantial benefits. Retirees were urged to plan wisely for their post-service life and remain vigilant against scams targeting their pensions and savings.
The retiring officers were commended for their unwavering commitment, with heartfelt thanks expressed for their contribution to national security, unity, and progress. The ceremony concluded with a salute to their service and warm wishes for a fulfilling retirement.
