President Museveni Sponsors 20 Muslims for Holy Pilgrimage
KAMPALA – In a gesture of continued support to the Muslim community, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has sponsored twenty faithful for the Islamic pilgrimage of Umrah.
The group of pilgrims was officially flagged off on Tuesday during a ceremony held at the headquarters of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) in Old Kampala.
Representing the President at the event was Mr. Moses Byaruhanga, the Senior Presidential Advisor on Political Mobilization. The event underscores the government’s commitment to fostering inter-faith harmony and supporting the religious pursuits of all Ugandans.
The Umrah, often referred to as the “lesser pilgrimage,” is a non-mandatory but highly revered journey to the holy city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia, that can be undertaken at any time of the year. It is a significant act of faith for Muslims worldwide.
While addressing the pilgrims, Mr. Byaruhanga conveyed President Museveni’s best wishes and message of unity. He urged the beneficiaries to use the spiritual journey to pray for peace, prosperity, and continued stability in Uganda.
The leadership of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council expressed its gratitude to the President for the ongoing support, noting that such initiatives strengthen the relationship between the government and the Muslim community.
The pilgrims are expected to depart for Saudi Arabia imminently to undertake their religious duties.
