KAMPALA — President Yoweri Museveni, the Commander-in-Chief of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), is set to oversee the retirement of several high-ranking army officers in an upcoming ceremony, sources have revealed.
Among those expected to retire are Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, Lt. Gen. Charles Angina, Maj. Gen. Godfrey Katsigazi Tumusiime, Maj. Gen. Leopold Kyanda, Maj. Gen. Abel Kandiho, and Brig. Gen. Edson Muhanguzi, alongside other senior officials.
According to insider reports, each of the retiring officers will receive a retirement package worth over Shs 1.5 billion, a vehicle, free medical care, and other benefits — part of a government appreciation gesture for their years of service to the nation and the armed forces.
The move is seen as both a recognition of the officers’ dedication and a step in the ongoing transformation of the UPDF’s leadership structure. The retirement ceremony is expected to draw high-profile attendance from government and military circles.
