NAIROBI, Kenya – President William Ruto has extended his congratulations to the Atlas Lions of Morocco for their victory in the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), describing their win as “well-earned.”

The President’s message followed the thrilling finals of the tournament, which he attended alongside thousands of cheering fans at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani, Nairobi County, on Saturday night.

In a statement, President Ruto expressed his gratitude to all the teams, officials, and organisers who “worked tirelessly to make this tournament a success.” He specifically highlighted the significance of Kenya’s role as a co-host of the tournament alongside Algeria.
“We take to heart the lessons of co-hosting this tournament, and we will use them to sharpen our preparation for AFCON 2027,” the President stated. This remark underscores the government’s commitment to learning from the logistical and operational experience of CHAN to deliver a flawless Africa Cup of Nations in four years’ time, which Kenya will co-host with Uganda and Tanzania.
Beyond the competition and the preparations for future events, President Ruto emphasized the deeper significance of the just-concluded tournament. He declared that CHAN 2024 had powerfully “affirmed the spirit of Pan-Africanism.”
“It has showcased the unity, resilience, and immense talent of our continent,” he said. “From North to South, East to West, Africa’s sons and daughters displayed not only footballing brilliance but also the bonds that tie us together as one people. This celebration of African excellence reminds us that our future is brightest when we stand together.”
The President’s presence at the finals in Kasarani, alongside a vibrant crowd, served as a strong symbol of national support for the event and a promise of the nation’s readiness to welcome the continent again for AFCON 2027.
