KAMPALA – The Ugandan government has publicized the application procedure for Masters of Ceremonies (MCs) and Panelists to access low-interest loans from the Presidential Empowerment Fund.
The initiative, which offers loans ranging from Shs1 million to Shs2 million, is being administered through regional coordinators across the country. A list of 18 focal persons, each covering a specific sub-region from Busoga to Karamoja, has been released to streamline the process.
According to the guidelines, the application process is designed to be simple and open. Interested individuals must first be registered members of their local MC association. They should then approach the zonal coordinator for their region to obtain application forms.
“Ensure that you’re a member of the association in your area, approach the zonal coordinator, get forms and fill them,” the public communication states. “The application will be assessed and you are given the money.”
The funds are provided as a loan with an annual interest rate of 6%. Officials have emphasized that applicants should not pay any money to access these funds.
A strong warning has been issued against any form of corruption. The public notice explicitly advises applicants to report anyone demanding a bribe to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit.
“You don’t need to pay anything to access this money. If anyone asks for a bribe, inform the State House Anti-Corruption Unit since this is public money with conditions attached to its use,” the communication adds.
The list of focal persons includes contact details for coordinators in major regions such as Kampala (Ssegujja Fred – 0701620292), Lango (MC. Brown Samuel Ogwok – 0772001017), Ankole (Buttume Geoffrey Speed – 0701444630), and West Nile (MC. Ziggy Zagga Toko Karim – 0777362720), among others.
This move is seen as part of a broader effort to support professionals in the creative and events industry by providing capital to bolster their businesses.
