Remembering Sister Duggan: A Life of Faith, Service, and Joy
Friends and members of our community are mourning the passing of Sister Duggan, a remarkable woman whose life was a testament to authentic Christian living. Known for her deep faith, compassionate leadership, and vibrant personality, she touched countless lives through her work, her ministry, and her everyday acts of kindness.
Sister Duggan’s impact was far-reaching. She founded the Kamwokya Christian Caring Community and Youth Alive Uganda, all while serving at Nsambya Hospital. Her passion and ambition were matched only by her humility, and she inspired many young people, including Ollama Claire, to join Youth Alive early on, drawn by her genuine love and faith.
Her leadership was marked by a joyful spirit. Whether taking part in Adventure Unlimited outings or sharing tea and doughnuts—complete with the warm aroma of freshly baked yeast treats—she created moments of fellowship and laughter. She introduced simple joys like jam and lemonade, and even lightheartedly broke the stigma around natural human moments, always finding a way to turn them into lessons about honesty and acceptance.
Sister Duggan’s generosity knew no bounds. She shared chocolate and gifts freely, never letting anyone feel like a stranger. She had a gift for making people feel valued—always calling Claire by her full name, “Ollama Claire,” which left a lasting impression of respect and care.
Her faith was practical and unwavering. In difficult times, when there was no money to pay salaries, she encouraged prayer over panic. Claire recalls how Sister Duggan would reassure her mother, saying, “We have no salaries, but we pray.” Later, she would return from Nsambya with a high five and the joyful news that funds had come through—proof, she believed, of God’s providence.
Sister Duggan lived her faith out loud, combining love, laughter, and honesty in a way that made Christianity approachable and real. Her lessons—about prayer, generosity, and embracing life’s imperfections—will continue to guide those she touched.
She will be deeply missed, but her spirit lives on in the communities she built, the lives she changed, and the love she shared so freely.
Rest well, Sister Duggan. Thank you for everything.
