Saudi Arabia Unveils Plans for Groundbreaking Suspended NEOM Stadium for 2034 World Cup
Saudi Arabia has revealed designs for the NEOM Stadium, a revolutionary venue planned for the 2034 FIFA World Cup. The stadium is set to be suspended 350 meters (approximately 1,150 feet) above the desert in “The Line,” the linear megacity under construction in the NEOM region.
The 46,000-seat arena is designed to operate entirely on renewable energy from wind and solar sources. Access to the elevated stadium is planned via high-speed elevators. The project, part of the kingdom’s broader Vision 2030 initiative, is targeted for completion around 2032.
The NEOM Stadium is intended to host group stage and quarterfinal matches during the 2034 tournament. It is one of 15 venues planned for the World Cup.
However, the ambitious project faces scrutiny. Reports highlight significant challenges, including the engineering complexities of constructing a suspended stadium, broader delays in the NEOM development, and concerns over labor conditions and environmental impacts.
