KASENYI – The Special Forces Command (SFC) has officially dispatched its contingent of athletes to compete in the upcoming 17th edition of the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Cup tournament.

The teams, comprising Rangers and football players, were flagged off during a ceremony held at the VVIPTS-Sera in Kasenyi. The highly anticipated tournament is scheduled to take place from August 26th to September 5th, 2025, and will be hosted by the UPDF’s Armoured Division in Masaka.
This annual sporting event is a major highlight on the UPDF calendar, designed to foster camaraderie, physical fitness, and healthy competition among the forces. This year’s edition is expected to be a large-scale affair, with over 20 teams from various UPDF formations and units set to compete in a range of activities, including football, netball, and range shooting.
During the flag-off ceremony, the SFC Commander, Major General David Mugisha, addressed the troops, placing a strong emphasis on the importance of discipline. He reminded them of SFC’s illustrious history and consistent strong performance in past tournaments and challenged them to uphold that winning legacy.
“We have a strong track record in previous editions of this cup. I urge you to uphold discipline throughout the tournament and work hard to maintain our unit’s reputation,” Maj Gen Mugisha stated.
Echoing the Commander’s sentiments, Brigadier General John Bosco Asinguza, the Commander of the 1st Special Forces Group, rallied the teams to embody the core values of the elite force. He encouraged them to approach the games with professionalism, courage, and a spirit of unity.
“SFC is expected to lead by example among the competing formations. Go out there and show what you are made of,” Brig Gen Asinguza said.
The event was attended by several senior officers, including the Chief of Staff-SFC, Brigadier General Paula Namawa, demonstrating the high level of institutional support for the participating teams.
The SFC teams now depart for Masaka, carrying the expectations of their command as they prepare to vie for top honors in the 2025 CDF Cup.
