Strengthening Ties: Qatar’s Emir Concludes Productive Two-Day Visit to Rwanda

KIGALI, Rwanda – The Emir of the State of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, concluded a successful two-day official visit to Rwanda, marked by high-level discussions and a symbolic gesture of friendship rooted in Rwandan tradition.

The visit began with a warm welcome from President Paul Kagame, who received the Qatari leader at Kigali International Airport. The leaders then proceeded to the President’s personal farm in Kibugabuga for the core of their engagements.
A significant moment of the visit was a private tête-à-tête meeting held at the farm, allowing for direct and focused discussions between the two heads of state. The leaders also took a tour of the farm, where President Kagame performed a deeply symbolic act: gifting His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad with a herd of Inyambo cows.
In Rwandan culture, the Inyambo cow is a revered symbol of prestige, friendship, and mutual respect. The gifting of these cattle is a traditional practice that signifies the forging of a strong, honorable bond, reflecting the close personal and national relationship between Rwanda and Qatar.
Following the visit, President Kagame took to social media to express his appreciation, referring to the Qatari Emir as his “brother and friend.” He stated that the two held “productive discussions” and emphasized that Rwanda “deeply appreciates the strong partnership with the State of Qatar and the personal friendship that continues to guide our cooperation.”
Looking ahead, President Kagame noted that both nations are eager to build on the progress made during this high-level visit. The leaders are committed to “advancing the shared priorities for the mutual benefit of our nations and people,” signaling a forward-looking approach to the growing bilateral partnership.
The visit underscores the deepening diplomatic and economic ties between Rwanda and Qatar, strengthened by a clear personal rapport between their leaders.
