Three Children Killed in Wakiso House Fire
Wakiso, Uganda – Friday, August 15, 2025
Tragedy has struck Mpala Cell in Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District, after three siblings perished in a house fire in the early hours of Friday morning.
The victims — Ellah Namiiro (12), Amani Namulema (5), and Namujju Tamale (3) — were reportedly locked inside the family home by their mother, Julie Nalubwama, who had gone out for the night. Their father, Kavuma Lenon, was away in Jinja for work.
According to eyewitnesses, the blaze, believed to have been sparked by an electrical short circuit, broke out around midnight. By the time Nalubwama returned, the house was engulfed in flames, with neighbors desperately trying to put out the fire.
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police PRO, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed that police have launched investigations into the incident.
“The fire, which broke out at about 1:00 am, was reported by the LC1 Chairperson. Our Fire and Rescue Services responded promptly and managed to extinguish the blaze. Two bodies were recovered outside the burnt house, while the third was found inside, burnt beyond recognition,” Owoyesigyire said.
The bodies have been taken to City Mortuary Mulago for a postmortem examination. Police are continuing inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, including the decision to leave the children unattended.
The incident has left the community in shock, with many calling for greater vigilance to prevent similar disasters.
