TINUBU VOWS TO CRUSH TERRORISM AFTER BOKO HARAM KILLS BRIGADIER‑GENERAL IN BORNO
Abuja, Nigeria – 10 April 2026 – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pledged that Nigeria will crush terrorism, declaring that a deadly Boko Haram attack in Borno State which killed a senior military commander and several soldiers is a sign of the insurgents’ “desperation” in the face of sustained military pressure.
The assault targeted a military base in Benisheikh, Borno State, claiming the life of Brigadier‑General Oseni Omoh Braimah alongside an unconfirmed number of troops. The attack marks one of the most significant losses to the Nigerian military in recent months.
In a statement issued on Thursday, President Tinubu mourned the fallen soldiers while urging the Armed Forces’ leadership and frontline troops not to be discouraged.
“This attack is a sign of desperation by terrorists facing sustained pressure from our forces,” Tinubu said. “I urge the leadership of the Armed Forces and all soldiers on the frontline to draw strength from the nation’s deep appreciation for their sacrifices.”
The President confirmed that Nigeria’s military is conducting intense land and air offensives, neutralising many fighters and commanders. He argued that recent insurgent attacks actually demonstrate that Boko Haram is struggling to counter the military’s advances.
Tinubu vowed that the government remains resolute in its commitment to ending terrorism, assuring citizens that the sacrifices of fallen heroes would not be in vain.
As of press time, the Defence Headquarters had not released an official casualty count, but security sources confirmed that the Benisheikh base has been reinforced, with pursuit operations ongoing against the fleeing attackers.
