Tiwa Savage Urges Women in Their 30s to Consider Egg Freezing as ‘Fertility Insurance’
Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has encouraged women in their 30s to consider freezing their eggs early, describing it as a vital step in safeguarding their future fertility. Speaking on the matter, Savage said she wished she had undergone the procedure — known medically as oocyte cryopreservation — much earlier in life.
Egg freezing involves extracting, freezing, and storing a woman’s eggs for potential future use through in vitro fertilization (IVF). Savage referred to it as “fertility insurance,” stressing that women’s egg quality and quantity naturally decline with age, and early action can help preserve reproductive options.
“I regret not doing it sooner,” the singer admitted, highlighting the procedure as a proactive step for women who may want to delay childbearing due to career, personal, or health reasons.
However, her advice has sparked debate, with some critics dismissing the idea as risky to women’s health. Others argue that declining egg count is not solely due to age but is also influenced by modern-day poor nutrition among women.
The conversation has reignited discussions on reproductive planning, women’s health choices, and the balance between medical technology and lifestyle factors.
