ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE – President Donald Trump launched a series of attacks against Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN) on September 18, 2025, publicly accusing her of immigration fraud and calling for her deportation, while also delivering a broad critique of her country of origin, Somalia.

The remarks, made aboard Air Force One, included a call for Omar’s impeachment, removal from Congress, and deportation. Central to his accusation was the revived, debunked claim that Omar “married her brother in order to gain Citizenship.” This allegation, which originated in unverified 2016 reports, has been repeatedly investigated and discredited by fact-checking organizations including the Associated Press and Snopes.
Trump’s comments were detailed in a post on his social media platform, where he described Somalia as a nation plagued by “a lack of central Government control, persistent Poverty, Hunger, Resurgent Terrorism, Piracy, decades of Civil War, Corruption, and pervasive Violence.” He concluded the post by asking, “All of this, and Ilhan Omar tells us how to run America!… What SCUM we have in our Country.”
The public broadside followed a significant political event in the House of Representatives. A day prior, House Republicans held a narrow 214-213 vote on a measure to censure Rep. Omar for her comments on the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The measure failed after four GOP members voted against it.
Rep. Omar, who fled Somalia as a refugee and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2000, has consistently denied the fraud allegations, calling them baseless and rooted in racism. As of September 19, 2025, no formal investigations or congressional actions have been initiated against her based on these claims.
