U.S. Suspends Visa Issuance for Certain Burundian Travelers
Bujumbura, Burundi – August 5, 2025 – The United States government has announced a temporary suspension of visa issuance for certain categories of travelers from 19 countries, including Burundi. The decision, issued through a presidential proclamation on June 4, primarily affects Burundian students, tourists, and exchange program participants seeking to travel to the U.S.
According to the proclamation, the suspension was prompted by concerns over noncompliance with visa regulations. The U.S. administration stated that an increasing number of travelers from the affected countries have failed to depart the United States in accordance with the terms of their visas or U.S. immigration laws.
The suspension will remain in place until further notice. Burundians who had planned to travel to the United States for education, tourism, or exchange programs will be impacted and are advised to defer their plans.
U.S. officials emphasized that the most accurate and current updates regarding the suspension can be accessed via the U.S. Embassy in Burundi’s official website and social media channels.
Authorities encouraged affected individuals to stay informed and monitor official communications for any changes to the policy.
