UCC and Salt Media Reach Agreement Following “Omusunsuzi” Programme Suspension

KAMPALA – A constructive resolution has been reached between the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) and Salt Media following the recent suspension of the “Omusunsuzi” programme on Salt TV for breaches of broadcasting standards.
The agreement was forged during a high-level meeting where both parties addressed the specific violations that led to the programme’s suspension. Key concerns identified included the use of inappropriate language during a morning time slot, a period when the content is easily accessible to children.
In a positive development, Salt Media’s management demonstrated a firm commitment to rectifying the issues. The broadcaster has pledged full adherence to national broadcasting regulations moving forward. As part of its corrective action plan, Salt Media will implement comprehensive professional training for its staff to enhance their editorial judgment and production skills.
The meeting held a particularly rewarding moment when the UCC official met with the programme’s host, Jenifer Namutebi Nakangubi. Ms. Nakangubi, who is also the official’s daughter, expressed a personal desire to pursue further training to elevate her professionalism. This initiative is aimed at ensuring her programme not only entertains but also complies with national broadcasting standards, a wish that the official confirmed would be fully supported.
The collaborative spirit displayed by both Salt Media and the programme host has been commended as a vital step forward. This teamwork is seen as essential for fostering a media environment that prioritizes responsible and ethical content creation.
With the continued backing of the UCC, this partnership paves the way for a stronger, more respectful media landscape that reflects Ugandan values and promotes trustworthy communication for all audiences.
