ENTEBBE, Uganda – In a significant step toward greater self-reliance, Uganda Airlines has announced the successful completion of its first in-house engine change on a CRJ900 aircraft, registration 5X-KNP.

The milestone was achieved by the airline’s own Approved Maintenance Organisation (AMO), a team formally certified by the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) in March 2024. The complex procedure, performed entirely by the airline’s Ugandan engineering staff, underscores a major advancement in the national carrier’s technical capabilities.
The achievement is a highlight as the airline prepares to celebrate its sixth anniversary on August 28, 2025. It highlights the company’s investment in developing world-class expertise and its commitment to building a robust aviation ecosystem within Uganda.
Supported by an active training program, the airline is not only maintaining its own fleet but also cultivating the next generation of Ugandan aviation professionals. This long-term strategy is a core part of the national carrier’s mission to create opportunities for local talent and strengthen the country’s aviation industry.
Looking ahead, Uganda Airlines has ambitious plans for its AMO. The organization aims to become a regional centre of excellence in aviation maintenance, offering comprehensive base services. A key part of this vision includes providing maintenance support to third-party airlines across Africa in the near future.
Through this achievement, Uganda Airlines reaffirms its foundational commitment to the highest standards of safety, reliability, and operational excellence.
