Kampala, August 8, 2025 – The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) has dismissed or transferred 82 employees after an internal investigation uncovered questionable academic qualifications. The move follows a Presidential directive issued on June 25, 2025, mandating a thorough verification of staff credentials.
UCAA Director-General Fred Bamwesigye confirmed that disciplinary proceedings had been concluded after an extensive review of 2,688 academic documents. He emphasized that the process adhered to the authority’s human resource policies and ensured fairness for all employees involved.
“This action underscores our commitment to upholding integrity within Uganda’s aviation sector,” Bamwesigye stated. “We will not tolerate fraud or misrepresentation in qualifications, as they compromise the credibility and safety of our operations.”
The crackdown highlights the government’s broader push to root out fraud in public institutions. The affected employees either faced dismissal or were reassigned to roles matching their verified qualifications.
The UCAA has assured the public that the dismissals will not disrupt aviation operations, as contingency measures are in place to maintain seamless service delivery.
Authorities have warned that similar audits may extend to other sectors as part of ongoing efforts to enforce transparency and accountability nationwide.
