Uganda Communications Commission Warns Against Fake Notices and AI-Generated Falsehoods
KAMPALA — The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has issued a strong public notice condemning the continued circulation of fabricated statements and false information designed to mislead the public.
In an official caution released on its verified platforms, the Commission expressed concern over notices that mimic its official communications but contain exaggerated, misstated, or entirely false mandates that fall outside UCC’s regulatory authority.
“This deliberate distortion is not accidental; it is calculated to confuse, alarm, and undermine public trust,” the Commission stated.
Of particular concern to the UCC is a TikTok account operating under the name MEDIA_CHANNEL (real_blxz), which has repeatedly published content falsely attributed to the Commission and other entities. The account is accused of spreading AI-generated falsehoods intended to misinform and disinform Ugandans.
The Commission emphasized that it communicates only through its verified official digital platforms. It urged the public to verify any information purporting to originate from UCC by checking directly with the Commission’s official channels before sharing.
In a stern warning to those behind the fake notices, UCC declared: “Anonymity on the internet is but an illusion, you are not ghosts. The law will take its course, and those responsible will be brought to book to answer for their actions.”
UCC reaffirmed its commitment to transparent communication, public reassurance, and the protection of Uganda’s communications ecosystem.
The public is advised to rely solely on announcements made through UCC’s official website and social media accounts for accurate information regarding its mandates and activities.
