KAMPALA – A storm of criticism has erupted after revelations that Uganda Cranes players were accommodated in Kisasi ghetto-style lodges, sparking outrage among patriotic fans and sports enthusiasts.
The players, who are representing the nation, were reportedly housed in low-end facilities within Kisasi, a densely populated settlement in Kampala, while visiting teams are comfortably enjoying four-star and five-star hotels.
The development has angered Ugandans, many of whom have taken to social media to express disappointment over what they describe as “humiliation” of national heroes. Fans questioned why the country’s pride was being subjected to such conditions, despite the Uganda Cranes carrying the national flag in international competitions.
“This is unacceptable. How can our boys, who sacrifice for the nation, sleep in ghettos while visitors are being treated like kings?” one concerned supporter lamented online.
Observers argue that such disparities highlight poor planning and negligence on the part of organizers. Many have demanded that authorities and sports federations explain why national players were not accorded the same standards of accommodation as their counterparts from other countries.
As the backlash grows, fans insist that the players deserve better treatment, befitting their role as national ambassadors on the global stage.
