Uganda Police Force’s PMPU Cracks Down on Illegal Gold Trade
Kampala, August 18, 2025 – The Police Minerals Protection Unit (PMPU), under the leadership of ACP Tusingwire Julius Ceaser, has achieved significant milestones in its fight against illegal gold trade and mineral-related crimes across Uganda.
In a series of targeted operations, PMPU has successfully dismantled multiple illegal refineries and scam networks operating in Kampala and its outskirts. These illicit activities were often conducted in hidden locations, including street corners, short-term rentals like Airbnbs, apartments, and fake offices designed to deceive victims.
The crackdown has led to the arrest and prosecution of numerous individuals involved in mineral fraud, alongside the recovery of substantial assets such as money and motor vehicles. PMPU’s efforts have not only disrupted criminal enterprises but also restored confidence in the legitimate mineral trade sector.
Beyond enforcement, the unit has played a pivotal role in mediating disputes between parties affected by mineral-related conflicts, promoting peaceful resolutions and cooperation.
ACP Tusingwire Julius Ceaser, Commandant of PMPU, emphasized the unit’s commitment to “protecting Uganda’s mineral resources and ensuring justice for victims of illegal trade.”
The public is encouraged to report suspicious activities via the Uganda Police Force’s toll-free line: 0800199699, or follow updates on their official platforms: @policeug and www.upf.go.ug.
PMPU’s ongoing operations underscore Uganda’s dedication to eradicating mineral crime and fostering a transparent, lawful industry.
