Kampala, Uganda – The Uganda Police Human Resources Commissioner, Eldard Mugume, has been charged with abuse of office and remanded to Luzira Prison over allegations of illegal recruitment into the police force.
Prosecutors allege that Mugume, alongside Ms. Lillian Waidha, facilitated the unlawful recruitment of several individuals into the Uganda Police Force between February and March 2013. The accused appeared before the Anti-Corruption Court, where they were formally charged before being sent to prison pending further legal proceedings.
The case has raised concerns over irregularities in police recruitment processes, prompting calls for stricter oversight. The Inspectorate of Government and police authorities have yet to release further details on the ongoing investigation.
If convicted, Mugume and Waidha could face severe penalties under Uganda’s anti-corruption laws. The case has drawn public attention amid broader efforts to combat graft within government institutions.
