ENTEBBE – The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has held a high-level meeting with the British Defence Attaché to Uganda, Ash Wiseman, signaling a move to deepen military cooperation between the two nations.

The meeting, which took place at the Special Forces Command (SFC) headquarters in Entebbe on Thursday, focused on strengthening the longstanding bilateral defence relationship and discussing strategic topics of shared interest.
A brief statement from the UPDF highlighted that the primary objective of the engagement was to “enhance Uganda-United Kingdom military cooperation.” While specific details of the discussions were not fully disclosed, such dialogues typically cover areas like counter-terrorism, regional security, training, and joint exercises.
The choice to host the meeting at the SFC headquarters, a unit formerly commanded by Gen. Kainerugaba, underscores the significance of the talks and the elite capabilities Uganda brings to the partnership.
The United Kingdom has historically been a key security partner for Uganda, providing training, advisory support, and logistical assistance. This meeting is seen as part of ongoing efforts to align strategic interests, particularly in promoting stability in the East African region and combating threats from armed groups.
The engagement reflects Gen. Kainerugaba’s continued focus on fostering strong international defence relationships since assuming the role of CDF. For the UK, it represents a commitment to engaging with key regional partners to address mutual security challenges.
Both parties expressed optimism about the future of the defence partnership, anticipating increased collaboration in the coming months.
