Ugandan Police Officer Remanded to Prison After Assault on Supermarket Attendant
KAMPALA – Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Clive Nsirma has been charged with assault and malicious damage to property following a widely circulated video that showed him slapping a female supermarket attendant at a Shell fuel station in Kyanja.
The incident, which occurred over a disputed fuel bill of Shs 30,000, also involved Nsirma destroying the attendant’s smartphone and allegedly drawing his pistol on a security guard. The victim has been identified as Pellan Amutuhurize.
Despite reports of a reconciliation agreement being reached between the parties, the presiding magistrate at Kampala’s City Hall Court on Monday remanded Nsirma to Luzira Prison until October 16. The court denied him bail.
The Uganda Police Force confirmed the arrest in a statement and noted that internal disciplinary proceedings against the officer are ongoing. The case has drawn significant public attention, highlighting concerns about police conduct.
