KAMPALA – The Ugandan community in Saudi Arabia and at home is in mourning following the tragic death of Namatovu Halima, who succumbed to injuries sustained while allegedly fleeing from Saudi immigration authorities.

According to information gathered, the deceased, whose visa had reportedly expired, was being held in a deportation facility and was just days away from being repatriated to Kampala. However, in a desperate bid for freedom, the incident took a fatal turn.
The tragedy unfolded when Halima, in an attempt to escape the officials, fell from the fourth floor of an apartment building. She suffered a severe head injury in the fall and was rushed to a nearby Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Despite medical efforts, Halima could not be saved. She passed away after spending several days in the ICU, with sources indicating she was in great pain before her death.
Her death has highlighted the perilous situation faced by many migrant workers abroad, particularly those with expired documents. An investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding her fall is likely, as questions arise about the events that led to this fatal attempt to flee.
The Ugandan Embassy in Riyadh has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident. The family of the late Namatovu Halima is now faced with the arduous task of repatriating her body back to Uganda for burial.
