UK High Commissioner Reaffirms Security Partnership in Meeting with Uganda’s Defence Chief

ENTEBBE, Uganda – The United Kingdom and Uganda have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral defence and security cooperation during a high-level meeting held on Thursday, October 17, 2025.
Her Excellency Lisa Chesney, the UK’s High Commissioner to Uganda, paid a courtesy call on General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), at the Special Forces Command (SFC) Headquarters in Entebbe.
During the meeting, the two leaders held discussions focused on enhancing the longstanding defence relationship between the two nations. Key areas of cooperation included ongoing collaboration in regional security, joint counter-terrorism efforts, and the potential for expanding military training programmes.
General Kainerugaba welcomed the High Commissioner and thanked her for the visit. Both parties emphasized mutual respect and agreed to continue high-level engagements to further deepen the bilateral partnership, underscoring a shared commitment to stability in East Africa.
The diplomatic engagement follows General Kainerugaba’s recent reception of a team from Prince Harry’s Invictus Games Foundation, which is set to work with the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) to support wounded service personnel.
This is not the first meeting between the CDF and the UK envoy; the two previously met last year at the High Commissioner’s residence during the birthday celebrations of King Charles III.
