UN Peacekeeping Personnel Enhance Skills in Open-Source Intelligence during Uganda-Based Course

ENTEBBE, Uganda – The Peacekeeping-Intelligence Academy (PKIA), with support from German subject matter experts, successfully concluded a five-day Open-Source Peacekeeping-Intelligence (OPKI) course at the Regional Service Centre in Entebbe (RSCE) from 13 to 17 October 2025.

The intensive training assembled 18 personnel from nine United Nations Peacekeeping Missions, focusing on building critical skills in acquiring, examining, and analyzing open-source information. Participants engaged with a variety of online tools and platforms, gaining practical, hands-on experience through a series of realistic exercises designed to simulate real-world mission environments.

“This course is a direct response to the growing operational need for skilled analysis of publicly available information,” a course facilitator stated. “Accurate open-source intelligence is no longer a niche skill but a fundamental component for enhancing situational awareness and supporting sound decision-making in our peacekeeping operations.”

The OPKI course underscores the UN’s commitment to equipping its personnel with modern tools and techniques. By strengthening these capabilities, the training directly contributes to the safety, security, and effectiveness of peacekeeping missions worldwide. 🌍🔍
