Young Innovators Call for Swift Implementation of AfCFTA at 2025 Africa Liberty Camp
Entebbe, Uganda – Young innovators and entrepreneurs from across the continent have called on African leaders to expedite the full implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), citing its critical importance in unlocking opportunities for cross-border trade and innovation.
The call was made during the 2025 Africa Liberty Camp held in Entebbe, Uganda, organized by the Action for Liberty and Economic Development (ALED), under the leadership of Mugabi John. The camp brought together youth changemakers, policy thinkers, and economic advocates from various African countries to deliberate on liberty, economic freedom, and intra-African collaboration.
Speaking at the event, several participants emphasized that the delayed implementation of AfCFTA is slowing down the continent’s momentum toward economic integration and youth empowerment.
“We, the young innovators of Africa, are ready to build the future — but we need a unified market, free movement of goods and services, and harmonized policies to compete globally,” one delegate remarked.
The AfCFTA, which officially commenced in 2021, aims to create the largest free trade area in the world, connecting over 1.3 billion people across 55 countries with a combined GDP of over $3.4 trillion. However, implementation has faced hurdles, including bureaucratic delays, lack of infrastructure, and fragmented national policies.
ALED Executive Director Mugabi John reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to championing economic liberty and youth-led transformation across the continent. He urged governments to listen to the voices of young people who are eager to drive Africa’s prosperity.
“Real integration must be youth-centered. Our continent cannot afford to ignore the urgency of building an open, borderless Africa for trade, innovation, and development,” Mugabi said.
The Africa Liberty Camp continues to serve as a platform for nurturing young leaders, advancing market-based solutions, and promoting freedom-oriented economic policies across Africa.
