Nansana, Uganda – August 3, 2025 — In a significant political development ahead of the 2026 general elections, renowned journalist-turned-politician Zambali Bulasio Mukasa has confirmed that fellow National Unity Platform (NUP) member and contender @Sserunkuumajb has officially withdrawn from the parliamentary race for Nansana Municipality. Instead, Sserunkuuma has declared his intention to run for Mayor of Nansana.
Reacting to the news, Zambali issued a statement on Saturday reaffirming his commitment to contesting for Member of Parliament for the constituency. “While we respect every individual’s choice to serve in the position they feel called to, our mission remains the same: to secure a voice for our people in Parliament and to advance the values of justice, freedom, and equal opportunity under the banner of the National Unity Platform,” Zambali stated.
He emphasized the unity of purpose within the party and the broader struggle for democratic change, saying, “At the end of the day, we may take different paths, but we share one goal: a better, more just Uganda.”
The withdrawal is seen by political observers as a strategic move that could consolidate support for the NUP in Nansana, minimizing internal competition and strengthening grassroots mobilization for both the parliamentary and mayoral races.
Zambali called on supporters to remain steadfast and committed to the cause. “Let’s continue to engage in politics of principle and purpose. The people’s power cannot be silenced, and our momentum cannot be stopped,” he declared.
As the countdown to 2026 continues, this development underscores the shifting dynamics within Uganda’s opposition and highlights the strategic positioning underway within the NUP.
