ENTEBBE, Uganda – 30 August 2025 – His Excellency Zhang Lizhong, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Uganda, conducted a significant visit to the United Nations Regional Service Centre in Entebbe (RSCE) on Thursday, August 29th, 2025.

The purpose of the Ambassador’s visit was to gain a comprehensive firsthand understanding of the United Nations’ operational footprint and support structures within Uganda. The RSCE is a critical shared service hub providing administrative, logistical, and technical support to UN client entities across Africa.

During the visit, Ambassador Zhang held high-level meetings with key UN officials. He was received by Mr. Paulin Djomo, the Director of the RSCE, and Mr. Leonard Zulu, the United Nations Resident Coordinator for Uganda.

The discussions focused on the scope of the RSCE’s work, its role in enabling the missions and mandates of various UN agencies in the region, and the broader collaborative efforts between the UN and the Ugandan government. China, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council and a major contributor to peacekeeping operations, has a strong interest in the efficiency and effectiveness of UN field support.

“This visit underscores the commitment of the People’s Republic of China to engaging with and supporting the vital work of the United Nations,” said Ambassador Zhang. “Understanding the mechanisms on the ground is crucial for strengthening our continued partnership in promoting peace, security, and development in Africa.”

Mr. Paulin Djomo, Director of the RSCE, welcomed the engagement. “We were honoured to host Ambassador Zhang and showcase the work of our dedicated team in Entebbe. Such high-level visits are invaluable for building support and demonstrating how strategic hubs like the RSCE are essential for the successful implementation of UN programmes on the continent.”
The visit is seen as a positive step towards enhanced dialogue and cooperation between China and the United Nations system in Uganda, with a shared goal of advancing international peace and development objectives.
