Pakistani PM Sharif Declares Victory Over India at UN, Nominates Trump for Nobel Prize
NEW YORK – September 26, 2025 – In a fiery speech at the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif claimed a decisive victory in the recent conflict with India and made the surprise announcement that he was nominating former U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Addressing the world body on Friday, Sharif directly referenced the aerial clash that occurred in May of this year. “We’ve turned 7 Indian fighter jets into scrap and dust,” he declared, a line that was quickly highlighted on social media by his supporters. The claim, while unverified independently, marks Pakistan’s most public assertion of military success from the engagement.
The Pakistani leader credited Trump, who is currently serving his second non-consecutive term, with facilitating the ceasefire that ended the hostilities. Citing this role, Sharif stated he was formally putting forward Trump’s name for the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize.
Sharif also issued a stern warning to India regarding the long-standing Indus Waters Treaty, a landmark water-sharing agreement brokered by the World Bank in 1960. He stated that any violation of the treaty by India would be considered “an act of war,” significantly raising the stakes in the tense bilateral relationship.
Beyond the India-Pakistan issues, the Prime Minister used the UN platform to address other international conflicts. He strongly condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza, demanding an immediate ceasefire and calling for the United Nations to grant full membership to Palestine.
The speech also touched upon the situation in Afghanistan, urging continued efforts for peace, and highlighted the issue of climate inequities, arguing that developed nations must bear greater responsibility.
