Qatar Expels Iranian Military and Security Attachés, Orders Them to Leave Within 24 Hours
DOHA, March 18, 2026 – In a significant escalation of diplomatic tensions, the State of Qatar has declared the military and security attachés at the Iranian Embassy in Doha as persona non grata and ordered them to leave the country.
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the decision on Wednesday, stating that the two attachés, along with the staff of their respective offices, have been given a maximum of 24 hours to depart.
The formal notification was delivered during a meeting between His Excellency Ibrahim Yousif Fakhro, Director of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and His Excellency Ali Salehabadi, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the State of Qatar.
According to an official statement, the decision is a direct response to what Qatar describes as “repeated Iranian targeting and blatant aggression” that violated the nation’s sovereignty and security. The Ministry stated that these actions constitute a “flagrant breach of the principles of international law, United Nations Security Council Resolution No. (2817), and the principles of good neighborliness.”
The Ministry issued a stern warning that any continuation of this “hostile approach” by the Iranian side will be met with additional measures to protect Qatar’s sovereignty, security, and national interests.
“The State of Qatar reserves the right to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and security, in accordance with the provisions of international law,” the ministry affirmed.
