Mpala, Wakiso — New details have emerged about Julie Nalubwama, the mother of three siblings who perished in a tragic house fire in Mpala Cell, Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District, in the early hours of Friday.
Reports indicate that Nalubwama had left her children locked inside the house while she went out partying at Dollar Springs Hotel, a popular hangout in Abaita Ababiri. The blaze broke out during her absence, claiming the lives of Ellah Namiiro (12), Amani Namulema (5), and Namujju Tamale (3).
Witnesses said Nalubwama was seen drinking and dancing late into the night before leaving the hotel only to return home to find her residence engulfed in smoke and flames as neighbors struggled to contain the fire.
During a vigil held Friday night at the home of the children’s father, Lenon Kavuma, mourners openly blamed Nalubwama for negligence, criticizing her for failing to hire a caretaker despite her frequent late-night outings. The couple, however, remained silent throughout the vigil and did not respond to the accusations.
Community members further revealed that Nalubwama and Kavuma first met in a bar in Entebbe and continued with a partying lifestyle even after starting a family, raising questions about their priorities and responsibility as parents.
The three children will be laid to rest today at Kintu Cemetery in Mpala Zone, near the scene of the fire.
The tragedy has reignited public debate on parental responsibility and child safety, with many residents calling for greater awareness and accountability to prevent such incidents in the future.
