KAMPALA – A high-stakes land dispute involving prominent politician Dr. James Rwanyarare’s 640-acre property in Kasanje, Wakiso District, has taken a dramatic turn with his son, Mugaino Rwanyarare, being charged with forgery of land titles.
The allegations form the core of a case that has already sparked violent clashes and government intervention.
According to a spokesperson for the family, Ms. Kahamutima, the actions of Mugaino enabled the fraudulent transfer of his father’s vast landholding into the name of a private company, Home Connect Properties Ltd. The transfer was allegedly executed with the help of an individual named Kiiza.
“The Special Certificate of Title and subsequent transfer are illegal, erroneous, and fraudulent,” Kahamutima stated. “No third party can acquire good title from these fraudulent transactions. The matter is now active before court, under the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution.”
The family has issued a strong caution to the public, urging all relevant authorities to ensure the legal process is followed without interference.
“We caution the public and third parties against engaging in any dealings related to the said property by Home Connect Properties Ltd,” Kahamutima added.
This legal development is the latest chapter in a conflict that escalated significantly last year. The dispute led Lands Minister Judith Nabakooba to issue a directive halting all transactions related to the contested land.
Minister Nabakooba’s intervention came after a violent confrontation between representatives of Home Connect Properties (HCP) and local residents. The residents have consistently accused the company of forcibly attempting to take over land they claim as their own, accompanied by the destruction of property.
The tensions boiled over into riots, during which one person was shot and wounded. The incident also raised accusations of bias against local police forces, who were alleged to have sided with the company.
With the case now formally in the hands of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, the long-running and volatile saga over the Kasanje land awaits a resolution through the judicial system.
