URA Mandates TIN Replacement with NIN/BRN Effective July 1, 2025
Taxpayers must update registration details or face restricted portal access.
The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has announced a compulsory update of taxpayer registration details, effective July 1, 2025, in line with Section 4 of the Tax Procedures Code Act.
Under the new directive, Individual taxpayers must replace their Tax Identification Number (TIN) with the National Identification Number (NIN), while non‑individuals (companies, trusts, etc.) will use their Business Registration Number (BRN).
Additionally, all registered taxpayers are required to provide active telephone numbers, physical addresses, and the nature of their business.
“Taxpayers whose registration details are not up‑to‑date will be prompted by the system to first update their information upon logging into their TIN account before proceeding with any transaction on the URA web portal,” the Authority warned in a public notice first published on Thursday, May 21, 2026.
To comply, taxpayers can log into their TIN account via the URA portal at www.ura.go.ug or visit the nearest URA tax office for assistance.
For inquiries, contact URA via email at services@ura.go.ug, toll‑free line 0800‑217000, toll lines 0323‑444602 / 0323‑444603, or WhatsApp 0772‑140000.
“Developing Uganda Together,” the notice concluded.
