
Police Investigate Disappearance of Veteran Coach Mike Mutebi
ENTEBBE, Uganda – Police in Entebbe have launched an an investigation into the disappearance of renowned Ugandan football coach Mike Hillary Mutebi, who has been missing since Saturday, March 7, 2026.
In an official statement released on Monday, the Uganda Police Force confirmed that Mutebi was last seen at Kisubi Beach, where he had attended a Catholic seminar.
According to the police report, the 58-year-old coach was present at the beach gathering but could not be located when participants were returning to Kampala later that evening.
“Mutebi had attended a Catholic seminar at the beach and was last seen at about 6:30 pm as participants prepared to travel back to Kampala. However, upon arrival in Kawempe, he could not be accounted for,” the police statement read.
Authorities have since appealed to the public for assistance in tracing his whereabouts. “Anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to report to the nearest police station or contact Entebbe Police Station on 0775318345 immediately,” the statement added, confirming that investigations are ongoing.
The news of his disappearance sparked widespread concern across Uganda’s football fraternity late Sunday night after friends and relatives circulated an alert on social media. Sources close to the coach indicated that he appeared distressed before leaving his residence in the Kawempe suburb earlier that day, though the circumstances surrounding his current whereabouts remain unclear.
Mutebi is widely regarded as one of the most successful and influential coaches in Ugandan football history. He rose to prominence during his tenure at Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) between 2016 and 2021, where he became the most decorated coach in the club’s history. Under his leadership, KCCA secured three Uganda Premier League titles, two Uganda Cups, four Super Cups, and the CECAFA Clubs Cup.
His spell at KCCA also marked a historic milestone for Ugandan football, as the club became the first in the country to reach the group stages of the CAF Champions League in 2018.
Beyond KCCA, Mutebi has coached other regional giants, including SC Villa and Rwanda’s AS Kigali. He also had a brief stint as head coach of the Uganda national team, the Cranes, in 2004.
Police have urged anyone with information to come forward as the search for the veteran tactician continues.
