Uganda Assumes Chairmanship of Pan African Postal Union Plenipotentiary Conference for 2026–2030 Term

KAMPALA, UGANDA – Uganda has officially taken over the chairmanship of the Pan African Postal Union (PAPU) Plenipotentiary Conference, assuming the leadership role for the 2026–2030 cycle.
The position will be held by Uganda’s Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi. During the ongoing 11th Ordinary Session of the Conference, he is being represented by Hon. Nyombi Thembo, the Executive Director of the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC).

Uganda steps into the role following Zimbabwe’s tenure, which successfully steered the Conference over the past four years under the leadership of Hon. Dr. Tatenda Mavetera, Zimbabwe’s Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services. Uganda extended its appreciation to Zimbabwe for its dedication and commitment to the Union.
In a statement, Uganda’s delegation emphasized the country’s readiness to take on the responsibility with humility and confidence. Key priorities outlined for Uganda’s chairmanship include advancing Africa’s digital transformation, strengthening postal systems across the continent, and supporting the growth of intra-African trade.

The leadership transition marks a significant moment for the Union, with Uganda poised to guide strategic initiatives aimed at modernizing postal services in alignment with continental integration and digital development goals.
