KAMPALA – In a significant development in the murder case of Eng. Daniel Bbosa, high-profile suspect Lujja Bbosa Tabula has reportedly been advised by his legal team to retract statements he made to investigators and magistrates following his arrest.
According to sources close to the matter, Tabula’s lawyers have counseled him to deny the previous admissions when he appears in the High Court, arguing they were made under duress. The legal maneuver is seen as a strategic move to avoid the death penalty, which is a possible sentence if he is convicted of the murder.
It is alleged that the legal team will argue that their client’s initial statements were a product of “fear and pressure by detectives” and not a voluntary account of events.
Tabula stands accused of orchestrating the violent shooting of Eng. Daniel Bbosa, the former leader of the “Ndiga” clan, in a killing that sent shockwaves through the community.
Life in Luzira: Comfort and High-Profile Friendships
Separate reports from Luzira Prison paint a picture of a suspect adapting to incarceration with notable support. It is learnt that Tabula enjoys regular visits from loyal subjects—many of whom he is said to have enriched through his claimed supernatural powers—and clan mates.
These visitors allegedly provide him with essential items, including food, ensuring his needs are met and shielding him from the stress typically associated with imprisonment.
Furthermore, Tabula has reportedly found camaraderie behind bars, forming a close friendship with another infamous inmate, the jailed Masaka tycoon Kato Kajubi. The two are said to spend considerable time together, adding a layer of unusual social dynamics to his time in custody.
The case continues to draw significant public attention as it progresses through the judicial system. The prosecution is expected to present its evidence against Tabula, whose new defense strategy will likely set the stage for a contentious legal battle focused on the admissibility of his initial confessions.
The High Court is yet to set a date for the next hearing.
