Trump Arrives in South Korea for APEC Summit, Reaffirms Strong Alliance Amid Regional Tensions

BUSAN, South Korea – President Donald J. Trump arrived in Busan on Wednesday, marking the final leg of his Asia tour with a ceremonial welcome that included a 21-gun salute and a performance by a South Korean Air Force band.
The visit centers on the APEC CEO Summit in Gyeongju, where President Trump is scheduled to deliver keynote remarks and hold meetings with regional leaders, including South Korea’s President Lee Jae Myung. Discussions are expected to focus on trade, strengthening alliances, and regional security.
The trip follows a recent series of cruise missile tests by North Korea on October 28. While President Trump has downplayed the tests, he used the occasion to reaffirm the United States’ “steadfast” commitment to the defense of its ally.
In a statement underscoring the close bilateral ties, President Trump praised the Republic of Korea, calling it a “cherished American friend and a close ally.”
“It’s truly one of the most remarkable nations anywhere on Earth,” he said.
The visit highlights the enduring U.S.-South Korea partnership as world leaders gather to address economic cooperation and the evolving security challenges in the Asia-Pacific region.
