Businessman Arrested in Kampala Over Alleged Counterfeiting of Numa Products

KAMPALA – In a coordinated operation, a prominent businessman was arrested on allegations of producing and distributing counterfeit goods belonging to the long-established Numa Products brand.

The operation was conducted this evening by the State House Investors Protection Unit (SHIPU) in liaison with the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) and the CPS Kampala police station. The target, Robert Kasoma Sserumaga, was arrested, and a search was conducted at his residence in Lubowa, Kampala.

The arrest follows a complaint that Sserumaga was involved in the production of counterfeit Numa Products, an act constituting copyright infringement. Such activities are known to undermine legitimate businesses and hinder investment in the country.
The affected company, NUMA Feeds Ltd, belongs to Mr. Robert Matsiko, who has been in production for the last 30 years. The company is recognized for adding value to Uganda’s economic development.
In a statement reaffirming the government’s commitment, the Investors Protection Unit under the leadership of Col. Edith Nakalema emphasized its dedication to protecting both domestic and foreign investors. The unit, in collaboration with other government agencies, vowed to ensure that individuals involved in such illegal activities “face the long arm of the law,” as part of its mandate to enhance investor confidence and security.
