Kampala, Uganda – Uganda is set to host the prestigious Afro-Arab Youth Congress 2025, an international gathering aimed at empowering young people across Africa and the Arab world. The event, scheduled to take place from 7th to 10th October 2025 at Speke Resort Munyonyo, was officially announced today by Barugahara Balaam Ateenyi, Chairperson of the Organising Committee, as appointed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
The Congress is being organized by the Afro Arab Youth Council, in partnership with the Government of Uganda through the Office of the President and the Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development.
Held under the theme “Amplifying Youth Voices for Peace, Unity and Prosperity,” the 2025 edition will underscore the pivotal role of young people in shaping a peaceful, united, and prosperous world. The theme reflects the need to involve youth in peacebuilding efforts, bridge societal divides, and unlock their potential for socioeconomic transformation.
A key highlight of the Congress will be the launch of a fundraising drive for the construction of the Afro Arab Youth Council International Headquarters in Nakawuka, Uganda. The initiative will be spearheaded by Hon. Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, the Council’s Special Presidential Envoy.
The four-day event will also include the non-elective General Assembly of the Afro Arab Youth Council and a celebration marking its 21st anniversary. It is expected to attract over 1,000 delegates from both African and Arab countries, including:
Youth leaders, entrepreneurs, students, and activists
Ministers and government representatives
Members of regional bodies such as the African Union and Arab League
Ambassadors, diplomats, and UN agency representatives
Development partners, donors, civil society, and private sector actors
Uganda was selected to host this milestone event in part due to its status as the host country of the Afro Arab Youth Council Secretariat, and its continued commitment to youth empowerment and Pan-African ideals. President Museveni, recognized as a champion of youth development, has been instrumental in fostering policies that promote the involvement of young people in national and global affairs.
In a statement, Barugahara Balaam urged all Ugandans to join President Museveni in welcoming thousands of delegates to Uganda. The Congress is expected to generate meaningful dialogue and forge lasting partnerships aimed at advancing youth-led development across Africa and the Arab world.
Five African and Arab Heads of State are expected to attend the event, with their names to be revealed in the near future.
