Uganda Electoral Commission to Demo Biometric Verification for Media Ahead of 2026 Polls
KAMPALA, Uganda — In a move to enhance transparency and public understanding of polling procedures, Uganda’s Electoral Commission (EC) has invited members of the press, bloggers, and digital influencers to a practical demonstration of the Biometric Voter Verification Kit (BVVK).
The session is scheduled for Wednesday, 17th December 2025, at the EC Headquarters on 7th Street, Industrial Area, Kampala, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
According to an urgent notice issued by the Commission, the demonstration forms part of a broader public sensitization drive ahead of the 2026 general elections. The exercise aims to familiarize key information disseminators with the technology and processes voters will encounter at polling stations.
“This is to request members of the press, bloggers and online/digital influencers wishing to participate in this exercise to submit their names and National Identification Numbers (NINs) for purposes of generating a ‘Voter Register’ for the mock polling station for that day,” the notice stated.
Participation is restricted to registered voters. Interested individuals must submit their particulars via WhatsApp to designated EC officials Nsuube Richard or Bukenya Paul no later than 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, 14th December 2025.
The initiative underscores the EC’s effort to promote clarity and confidence in the electoral process under the banner #MyVoteMyVoice. The use of biometric verification is intended to safeguard against electoral malpractices and ensure that only duly registered voters cast ballots.
The 2026 general elections, already generating significant public interest under the slogan #UgandaDecides2026, will see Ugandans vote for presidential, parliamentary, and local government representatives.
Analysts view such transparency exercises as critical for building stakeholder trust, especially among media and digital influencers who play a pivotal role in shaping public perception.
The Electoral Commission reiterated its commitment to “Regular, Free and Fair Elections and Referenda” in the notice.
