Manchester United Part Ways with Manager Ruben Amorim After 14 Months
Manchester United have confirmed the departure of manager Ruben Amorim, bringing his turbulent 14-month reign at Old Trafford to an abrupt end.
The club announced the decision on Monday, citing a disappointing league campaign as the primary reason for the “drastic change.” Despite delivering a memorable run to last season’s Europa League final and some positive moments, Amorim’s team has faltered badly in the Premier League.
Currently languishing in sixth place, the Red Devils’ form has collapsed, winning only three of their last eleven matches. This stark downturn ultimately proved unacceptable to the United hierarchy, who acted in a bid to salvage their season and secure a coveted Champions League qualification spot.
Amorim, 39, was appointed in November 2024 with a clear mandate to rebuild the squad and restore the club to its former heights. While his tenure showed flashes of promise, particularly in cup competitions, he struggled to instil the consistency required for a sustained title challenge.
A club statement read: “Manchester United can confirm that Ruben Amorim has left his role as first-team manager. The club would like to thank Ruben for his service and wish him well for the future. An announcement on a new interim management team will follow shortly.”
The Portuguese coach’s exit underscores the relentless pressure and high expectations at one of world football’s most scrutinised clubs. Fans had grown increasingly frustrated with the team’s erratic performances and growing gap to the league’s front-runners.
The search for Amorim’s permanent successor is expected to begin immediately, with the board facing a critical decision to appoint a figure capable of uniting the squad and delivering the results demanded at Old Trafford. For now, the focus turns to an interim appointment who can steady the ship for the remainder of the campaign.
