President Museveni Appoints Veteran Journalist Allan Kasujja as Media Centre Chief
President Yoweri Museveni has directed the appointment of seasoned journalist Allan Kasujja as the new Executive Director of Uganda’s Media Centre, a key government communications office.
The directive was issued in a December 2025 letter from the President to the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and copied to the Minister for Information and Communication Technology, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi. In it, President Museveni stated, “I have already directed Dr. Chris Baryomunsi to appoint Allan Kasujja as Executive Director of the Media Centre.” He further instructed the minister to initiate the appointment procedures and assess potential candidates for the deputy director role.
Kasujja will take over from Ofwono Opondo, who resigned in April 2025 to pursue elective politics. Opondo has since been elected unopposed as the Member of Parliament representing Older Persons for Eastern Uganda.
The incoming media chief brings decades of experience from both the Ugandan and international media landscape. He began his career in the 1990s at Sanyu FM in Kampala and became a familiar voice to many Ugandans as a co-host of The Big Breakfast on 91.3 Capital FM. He is also widely known as the long-time presenter of the Ugandan version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, a role he has held since 2011.
For over a decade, Kasujja has been based in London, serving as a regular presenter for the BBC World Service’s Newsday program and hosting the Africa Daily podcast. He left the BBC in August 2025. His profile also includes moderating Uganda’s first-ever televised presidential debate alongside journalist Nancy Kacungira in 2016.
