Community Elder Endorses John Socrates Mugabi for Entebbe Division B LC3 Chairmanship
A respected community elder and former teacher in Entebbe has publicly endorsed John Socrates Mugabi as a suitable candidate for the position of LC3 Chairman for Division B, emphasizing qualities of character, service, and non-partisan leadership.
The assessment, provided upon request by a community member, paints a picture of Mugabi as an intelligent, learned, and action-oriented leader whose work transcends political divisions. The elder, who has observed Mugabi as a fellow village mate from Lugonjo, stated that effective local leadership “is most effective when it rises above political divisions and remains anchored in the common good.”
Mugabi’s credentials are rooted in both civic activism and institutional service. He is the founder of ALED (Action for Liberty and Economic Development), a policy think tank focused on economic freedom. Through this organization, he has provided direct support to citizens, offering paralegal services in land disputes and cases of business marginalization.
Professionally, he holds the position of President for the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Entebbe Branch, demonstrating his standing within the local business community. His leadership experience includes serving as Guild President at Kyambogo University (2013-2014) and as a former member of the Entebbe Municipal Development Forum (MDF).
Culturally, he serves in the Buganda Kingdom’s structure as Ow’obusuubuzi (literally, ‘one in charge of trade’) in Mutuba V, aligning his modern economic advocacy with traditional frameworks.
Known by pseudonyms like Chairman ye Neighbor and Free Market, Mugabi is described as a clear communicator with critical-thinking skills, respected in regional and global forums. The elder highlighted these traits as reflective of a leadership philosophy based on “accessibility, fairness, open dialogue, and accountability.”
“John relates comfortably across political and social divides, prefers dialogue over confrontation, and understands that effective leadership at local level is about uniting neighbours, not dividing them,” the elder noted, valuing the candidate’s observable integrity, humility, and justice.
The endorsement concludes that for Division B, Mugabi represents “calm, principled, and people-centred leadership,” deeming him a credible candidate capable of serving all residents equally. “Character matters more than party colours,” the elder asserted, sharing the assessment “honestly and without reservation.”
