Ghana Dismisses Coach Otto Addo Just Months Before 2026 World Cup
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has parted ways with head coach Otto Addo, terminating his tenure just months before the start of the 2026 World Cup. The decision comes in the wake of a troubling string of results that raised serious concerns about the Black Stars’ form heading into the global tournament.
The move was finalized hours after Ghana suffered a 2-1 friendly defeat to Germany, a loss that marked the team’s fourth consecutive setback. The poor run of form also included a heavy 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Austria, intensifying scrutiny on the coaching staff as the World Cup approached.
Addo, who took over the role in March 2024, was dismissed as the federation looks to stabilize the squad ahead of what analysts have described as a challenging group stage. Ghana is set to face England, Croatia, and Panama in the opening round of the World Cup.
In a statement confirming the departure, the GFA thanked Addo for his service but emphasized the need for a change to ensure the team is competitive on football’s biggest stage. The federation indicated that a new technical setup would be announced soon to steady the team before the tournament kicks off.
